Does your Past affect Your Present?

Is it true that an individual’s personality is a reflection of his/her own experiences in life?

This sentence caused me to pause and reflect on how I am raising and impacting my own child’s life. I found this article
, The Past is Present: The Impact of Your childhood experiences on how you parent today.

Several questions came to me, such as
  • "Am I raising my child because that it was the only way that I have learned to do it?"
  • "If I just have a moment to reflect on this, what could I change?"
  • "How can I make it better for me and my child?"

This article encourages parents raising children to make conscious decisions and consider the power that you have as a parent; the opportunity to make changes, stop current behaviors and create new loving, respectful and trustful life-long relationships with your children.

Period of PURPLE Crying

11/1/2016

ALL babies go through it, but the severity varies from infant to infant.  From about 2 weeks of age through 3-4 months, all babies experience a Period of PURPLE Crying (you may think of it and refer to it as colic).  In this video, Dr. Ronald Barr explains the Period of PURPLE Program.  Although some babies cry a lot more than others, there is NOTHING wrong with your baby if they exhibit the symptoms above during this stage of development.

This Period can be particularly difficult for dads! So often, dads feels the need to "fix" the problem, and this is one of those "problems" that you just can't fix.

Sometimes, a parent or caregiver's frustration with a baby's crying can lead to Shaken Baby Syndrome or SBS.  During a study by Dr. Barr, it was discovered that there appears to be a possible correlation between the incidence of SBS and the Period of PURPLE crying.
Whatever you do...

There are some excellent articles shared on the Period of PURPLE Crying website that share ideas for soothing your baby as well as ways to handle your own frustration.  No one plans to shake a baby...
